Security Isn’t Just About Locks and Alarms Anymore

For many high-net-worth households, security has become increasingly sophisticated. CCTV, monitored alarms, automated gates, smart locks and connected home systems can all provide valuable protection. As homes become more connected, the conversation needs to move beyond simply asking whether a client has an alarm.

Understanding how the home is actually secured

A modern HNW property might combine professionally monitored alarms, CCTV, automated gates, smart locks and, in some cases, security personnel, alongside a number of other people who have some form of access to the property. Understanding how these different layers work together, and how access and security responsibilities are managed, can help to build a more rounded view of the overall risk than simply confirming an alarm is fitted.

Why connected security adds another layer to the conversation

Technology can enhance a property’s security, but it also becomes part of the household's infrastructure, so it may be relevant to understand who has access, who monitors the systems, and what contingency arrangements are in place should the technology fail. This can be particularly relevant for second homes that can be left unattended more often or for longer periods.

Why the right insurance partner matters

For Private Client insurance, security shouldn't be considered in isolation from domestic staff, valuable collections, multiple properties and high-value vehicles. Our Private Clients proposition recognises that high-value homes can present a range of interconnected risk considerations and aren't always straightforward to insure, which is why we aim to work with brokers to understand the features that are material to a risk to find the right cover solution for each client.
